Meadow of love was inspired by a beautiful bed of poppies and meadow flowers at Cyfartha Castle, in Merthyr. The colours was magnificent and instantly I knew I had to capture this in oil. With a quick sketch and photos for reference I started to work straight away in my home studio.

I chose an 18” x 24” boxed canvas to create this meadow scene. With oils of Michael Hardy, I selected a range of colours ultramarine blue, green, red, and many more.

I begin every painting selecting my backdrop colour to paint a thin layer of paint over the canvas before laying out the scene. Then as each layer dries, texture andcolours are added to capture each flower and grass stroke. so the flowers pop.
